The University of Garyounis aims to achieve progress in the following fields: Science, Technology, Philosophy, the Arts and Economics. It also aims to develop human civilization, and to broaden the horizon of human knowledge. Garyounis also aims for greater contribution towards economic and social development in order to accomplish the local and national goals of our beloved Jamahiriya. Specifically, the aims of the university are as follows:

To provide the country with competent graduates in various scientific fields. In addition, it aims to pay great attention to the Arabic language and its literature in order to raise the standards in the Arts, morality and economy.

To encourage and contribute to scientific research which will facilitate scientific and technical advancement. Such research will help to solve various problems which may facilitate economic and social progression.

To develop the means and methods of scientific and educational research. The university is also concerned with publishing educational journals and translating educational publications for the students of the university. In addition, to provide the laboratories needed for scientific research.

To show a great interest in the cultural revolution and emphasis on the philosophy of the people's authority. The University of Garyounis aims to strengthen the cultural, scientific relations with other scientific institutions locally, nationally and globally.

Garyounis works as a consultative institution for other organizations, institutions and companies.
