Faculty Profile

 

The Faculty of Engineering was established on 30 December 1973; study was initiated during the academic year 1974-1975. The current number of students in the Faculty is 3580.
The main aim of the faculty is to provide the country with the technical manpower which is able to transfer up-to-date technology to be used in the economic, social, and scientific development of the country.
The faculty is one of the most important faculties of the University of Garyounis as it is known by its distinguished scientific level. Everyone in the faculty is working hard to develop this scientific establishment in order for it to be one of the internationally famous faculties.
It is no wonder that most of the staff of the faculty graduated from various international universities famous for their scientific credibility. They do their best to transfer what they have learnt in order to develop this faculty. All efforts are utilized to establish an appropriate scientific atmosphere for staff members. The Faculty also encourages scientific research and endeavors to develop higher studies. In addition, one of its priorities is to provide students with all possible means in order to prepare them to take their responsibilities to serve their society in all sectors. Thus, study in the faculty is twofold: theoretical and practical. The practical courses are performed in the labs of the scientific departments.

Vision

Throughout the developments in engineering disciplines and the expectations of the society, the need of highly proficient engineer is evident. The faculty aims at establishing itself as a center for outstanding engineering programs, supporting academic distinction and seeking excellence in teaching and research.

  • To provide quality education programs that educates the students on fundamentals of engineering knowledge, practical skills and other tools that enable them to be competitive on the world arena.

  • To improve quality of life by considering the needs of the community and supporting the related engineering activities.

  • To establish connections with educational and industrial bodies locally and abroad that will enhance the advancements of engineering.

 
 

Engineering Science Department

Vision

To provide the students with a strong basis for all the specialization programs in theoretical and applied basic sciences thus promoting the need for a good foundation in theoretical and practical aspects of the basic sciences.

Mission

  • To educate students on theoretical and scientific bases to enable them to acquire competency in their further studies.

  • To enable students to establish connections between theoretical foundations and practical studies.

  • To help students in acquiring report writing skills.

  • To support the multidisciplinary nature of the courses and to enable good coordination of their elements.

 
 

Architectural and Urban Planning Department

Vision

To achieve excellence in education of architecture, planning of urban systems and the allied professions, and to be recognized as the best academic program in integration of teaching, research and community service for improvement of quality of life.

Mission

  • To prepare graduates capable of imagination, creative and critical thinking, and problem solving.

  • To enhance the ability to conceptualize and create effective beautiful designs that satisfy the multiplicity of needs.

  • To educate students on aspects of organizing liveable environments on all levels starting from a simple building and surrounding of towns and regional planning.

  • To train students on skills for designing building system on the principles of safety and serviceability.

 
 

Civil Engineering Department

Vision

To provide an educational program that is innovative to find solutions to the problems faced by the society for maintaining its infrastructure as well as to contribute to scientific and technical developments and welfare of the society.

Mission

  • To educate for preparation in careers where the positively contribute in design, construction, and maintenance of systems where civil engineering has a major role.

  • To maintain an active role in providing quality of life by providing safe and modern living environment by creating conditions for continued development.

  • To advance the state of knowledge of civil engineering by contributing to research activities locally and globally.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department

Vision

To be recognized as an excellent program in electrical and electronics engineering that provide quality education and advanced research, and to establish ties to promote the educational and research activities.

Mission

  • To provide the students with a well balanced program for preparation in careers of increasing level of advancement and engineering technologies.

  • To establish an environment for better learning within which the theoretical and practical skills and self-development.

  • To support graduates and the community through active participation in continuous education and related activities.

Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering Department

Vision

To be the leader in providing graduates who will satisfy the growing needs of the country in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering and to participate activity in promoting the professions through continuous education, research and consulting as well as international connections.

Mission

  • To prepare students to practice professionally in manufacturing and service organization through provisos of dynamic high quality undergraduate and educational programs.

  • To equip students with a strong foundation that treats problem on a system approach, optimality integrating all components.

  • To provide an environment promoting continuous improvement to achieve professional growth as well as seek advanced education.

Mechanical Engineering Department

Vision

To establish itself as an outstanding mechanical engineering program in undergraduate postgraduate education as well as in research activities contributing to the theoretical and practical aspects of the discipline.

Petroluem Engineering Department

Vision

To provide a premier undergraduate and postgraduate and educational and research program for the oil and gas industry and to play a major role in evaluating and/or developing new technology for industry, locally and in the region.

  • To enhance active research to petroleum exploration and production.

  • To provide students with a strong foundation for preparation for national and international careers, life-long learning, and public service.
