  The Faculty of Arts is the first nucleus of the Libyan University established in 1955 in Benghazi. It continues its academic work from that time until now. The Faculty initiated its first academic year in 1955-1956 with a very small number of students about 32 students. 31 of them graduated in the academic year 1958-1959. The number of departments was very limited with the department of Arabic language being the first that was established. However, each year new departments were added to meet the requirements of the society and the advancement of science.

   The number of departments within the Faculty of Arts is 15. They are listed respectively.

9. Mass Media.
