  Introduction
 

 The postgraduate program started in the Fall of 1978. This program seeks to qualify specialized and scientific staff in all branches of the faculty.  A postgraduate research degree allows students to undertake an in-depth study in a specific area. The faculty awards Master’s degrees in all branches of economics. The following information is provided to offer guidance and instructions in order to assist students wishing to attain a postgraduate degree.

To study at the Faculty of Economics, students must normally satisfy the following entry requirements in order to pursue their Master’s Degree:

 1st: Required Documents:

1.Graduates of the University of Garyounis:

a.Postgraduate application form from the postgraduate admission office of the university.

b.Official graduate certificate and transcript of previous study (BSc).

2.Graduates from other universities.

a.Postgraduate application form from the postgraduate admission office of the university.

b.A copy of the degree certificate from the first university.

c.A transcript of his previous study.

d.Letters of recommendation from previous professors.

2nd: The following documents are needed for all students:

1. Eight photographs, size (4×6).

2. Birth certificate.

3. Accommodation certificate.

4. A copy of the passport for non-Libyans.

5. Certificate confirming the lack of a criminal record.

6. Certificate of Medical Fitness.

 

 Admission Requirements

 

Students seeking to pursue the postgraduate program in order to get Master Degree must satisfy the following admission requirements:

1. An accredited BSc certificate from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Garyounis or other recognized university.

2. The minimum cumulative GPA of not less than 2.50, along with a specialization GPA of not less than 2.75.

3. Other additional conditions which may be added by the departments.

  Registration
 

The student should present the required documents to the office of post graduate studies which then transfers them along with an official letter to the faculty administration which is then forwarded to the particular department. The admission is either accepted or rejected according to the previous conditions.

 When the student is accepted, his file will be moved to the office of postgraduate study in the faculty where he will be given his student identification number. This office monitors the academic achievement of the students coordinated with supervisors of the specific department.

 

General Information

 

The permitted period for completion of the Master’s degree is 36 months. This period cannot be extended without written permission from the specific department, which consists only of six months. Furthermore, two suspended registrations are permitted which must not be counted in the legal period. Only two total withdrawals are permitted and counted in the legal period.

 Two courses are the minimum level for registration, whereas partial withdrawal from two courses is not permitted. The student can register in one course if it is the last course remaining. Four courses are the maximum number of courses that students can take in every semester.

 The student is dismissed if he gets two warnings. The warning is counted if the student gets less than 3.00 for the GPA.

 The Faculty of Economics offer postgraduate programs in the following departments: (1) Political Science; (2) Accounting; (3) Business Management; and (4) Economics.
